Masala Prawns


Ingredients you will need:

Jumbo Prawns (15-20) cleaned and peeled .

Olive Oil for cooking -2 big table-spoon.

Salt – 1 teaspoon

Pepper -1/2 teaspoon

Turmeric powder-1 teaspoon

Chilli powder 1 teaspoon

Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon

Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon

Onion-one- medium size

cashews (8-10)

1 tablespoon of ginger garlic paste (or  chopped garlic cloves 4-5, ginger shreds 4-5 )

One green chilli (optional)

Tomato puree – 1 cup medium size

Coriander seeds (1/2 tsp)

Cumin seeds (1/2 tsp)

Mustard Seeds (1/2 tsp)

Curry Leaves – 5

Chopped Coriander for garnishing

Preparation time : 10 minutes           Cooking time : 20 minutes 

Serves 2 people

Method :

Heat oil in pan,   add chopped onions first saute for a minute and then add ginger garlic  paste and chili.

Fry the  onions  until you see them turning slightly brown.

Add the cashews and saute for a minute till they get slight golden colour.

Start  adding spices :red chilli  powder,turmeric,coriander powder , salt, pepper, garam masala.

Saute for a minute then add tomato puree.

Once you see oil is separated from gravy,turn the gas off.

Cool and grind  it into a fine paste , it now has more creamy and consistent gravy texture.

On a flat plan, add one tablespoon of oil, add the crushed coriander seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, one chopped pod of garlic  and curry leaves.

Once the mustard seeds splutter add the prawns and let the prawns cook  for 5-10 minutes on medium flame.

Add these cooked prawns into the gravy , mix well and simmer it  on low flame covered for 5 minutes.

Garnish with  chopped coriander .

Your masala Prawns  are ready , you can enjoy it with steamed rice or naan.



Green Beans with Tuna



Preparation time : 10 minutes                               Cooking time : 15-20 mins

Serves :2 


1 small can tuna ( 100 gm)

Onion- half small, finely chopped

Green beans –  200 gm,cut into two piece each

Garlic -2 big cloves finely chopped

Salt -1 teaspoon

Pepper powder-1/2 teaspoon

Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon

chili powder-1/2 teaspoon

Asafoetida powder- to sprinkle

Persil  (for dressing)

1 spoon lemon juice (dressing)



In a wok/pan  heat oil  and  sprinkle some asafoetida into oil, add chopped onion,garlic and fry them for 2-3 minutes on medium flame.
Add the spices ,salt pepper and now fry for a minute.
 Add the beans ,saute for 3-4 mins.
Cover the wok for 5 mins on low flame till beans become soft.
Now add tuna, mix  and fry them all for a minute on low flame until it all look cooked.
Top it with some persil and lemon juice and enjoy with bread . I added some Pomme Duchesse as starters at my plate ( duchess potatoes).

Rice with fish and Vegetables

This week my Dear husband is in cooking mode so you will have more recipes from him this week  than me.

He loves to eat this rice cooked  with fish and some veggies , some sort of paella you can say but not completely as ours doesn’t have much combinations of seafood.

You can add other seafood to it as well.My Indian friends do like it more spicy ,go ahead to add some garam masala and more spices to it.


Preparation time : 15 mins  (30 minutes  marinating time minimum)

Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients :

1 cup Rice.

I fish filet small pieces.

I cup chopped vegetables.(carrots,green beans,potatoes,peas)

Half green chili,(those big ones which are not so hot)

One big garlic clove finely chopped.

1 teaspoon salt

1/4rth teaspoon turmeric.

1/2rth Cumin Powder.

1/4rth Chili Powder.

One tablespoon olive oil.



Directions :

Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes and add  spices to fish and veggies as marinade and keep aside .


After 30 mins, Add oil to wok, add the chopped garlic and chilli,fry for a minute.


Now ,add marinated fish and veggies to wok,saute them.


Now add,one cup water and rice to it.



Cook it on low flame for 10-15 minutes with lid covered,

check if  rice are cooked and water is absorbed,well .If you see some water like below, cook on low flame for another 5-7 minutes with lid covered.


Serve the rice hot as main dish ,with some salad.


Dinner Ideas :Baked Fish with Vegetables

Need an Easy Dinner Idea, How about fish tonight? Baked fish with vegetables not only sounds great but it is delicious too.It is healthy as well,you are not  frying anything here or adding much oil .You can modify the recipe with your choice of veggies and eat with  a bowl of salad with drizzle of lemon on top.


Preparation time : 15 minutes excluding marinating time (1 hour min)                   Cooking time : 20 mins

Serves – 2-3

Ingredients :

  • Fish filets ( 3-4) .  I have used tilapia fish.
  • Vegetables -Potato, brinjal,Green Pepper,Tomato,Onion,Garlic

(I took one potato medium,one medium tomato,one medium onion,3-4 garlic cloves

and small green pepper,half of  brinjal medium size)

  • one tablespoon of lemon juice .
  • One and half  tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt One teaspoon
  • Spices for marinade-,Pepper 1/2 teaspoon,Garlic Powder 1/2 teaspoon,Cumin Powder 1/2 teaspoon,Chili Powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • Herb- Herb de Provence, Dry Persil to sprinkle

Method :

Marinate the fish filets with spices,lemon juice,salt, one tablespoon olive oil  and keep aside for minimum an hour ( more you keep, it is better)

Preheat the oven for 15 minutes at 240 C.

Meanwhile ,Cut the vegetables into thin slices so they can be baked easily,cut big pieces of garlic,it gives good taste .

Now transfer the marinated fish into baking tray along with vegetables,pour some olive oil ( one teaspoon) ,some water (50 ml) and  sprinkle some herbs over it, and let it bake for 15-20 minutes.

check if vegetable are cooked .

Serve with bread , some salad and some lemon juice on top.
